The government of Indian would be developing three bulk drugs and three medical devices parks at an investment of INR 60,000 crore (US $ 9.23 bn).

It is expected that once these parks are established, they would bring down the costs of production for bulk drugs and devices by 30 per cent and would also facilitate domestic manufacturing thereby curbing imports to a great extent. Bulk drugs are used as raw materials in the pharmaceutical industry.

The government would be providing one time financial support for the bulk drugs parks and is encouraging states to set up the parks in public private partnership mode. Both the kind of parks (bulk drugs and medical devices) would have common facilities including testing, power and effluent treatment plants. A special purpose vehicle would take care of other common facilities including storage, IPR management, testing laboratories, designing and guest house/accommodation.
